Verónica Gonzales, brand manager for Bon Bon Bum at Colombina S.A., a food company with facilities in Cali, Colombia, had launched a strategic marketing plan in 2020 with her team, focusing on sustainability. The goal was to position the brand among its lollipop consumers as one that cared about the planet. However, according to market research, the objectives of this plan, in Verónica's words, had not yet been achieved. "Today is April 2025, and after five years, we still haven't been able to adequately communicate to our customers the real benefits of consuming sustainable food products, even though our Bon Bum sales are excellent." This situation was causing Verónica concern, especially since she had to present the results of the strategic marketing plan to date in mid-April. “What should we do? Should we accept that the time to position ourselves in Colombia as a sustainable brand was too short? And, at the same time, should we propose a new marketing plan that involves the foundations of modern sustainability much more deeply?” These were the questions he asked himself, while analyzing with María Clara Jaramillo, Corporate Brand Manager, and her team, the results of the market research and the possible alternatives they should propose to the board at their meeting.
