This study looks at creating a system to track and control key performance indicators for logistics at Alquería's Villavicencio Distribution Center. This center is known for being very efficient and having a high level of service, with 99.3% of deliveries made on time. However, the way they currently track performance, using only overall reports and national averages, hides some important problems on the warehouse floor. For example, the accuracy of inventory records is 2-3% lower than it should be, and there's a big shortage of plastic totes, with 6.1% not being returned. To fix these issues, the researchers used a combination of methods, including analyzing data from the existing warehouse management system and observing how things work on the floor. They designed a new system that uses a daily cycle of tracking and control, with a visual dashboard that uses color-coding to highlight problems and routines that happen every 10 minutes to help make quick decisions. This system was built using Microsoft Excel and doesn't require any new software investments. The idea behind this system is to help reduce errors and waste, which should lead to a 2% increase in profits. By having a better handle on what's going on in the warehouse, the center can cut down on hidden costs, damage to products, and rework at the dock. The system is designed to be simple and easy to use, with the goal of stabilizing the daily rejection rate at 1% or less. Overall, this study aims to show how a well-designed tracking and control system can make a big difference in the efficiency and profitability of a logistics operation. The researchers used a mixed-method approach, which means they combined different ways of collecting and analyzing data to get a more complete picture of the situation. They also used a non-experimental design, which means they didn't try to manipulate any variables or test hypotheses, but instead just observed and described what was happening. The study had a cross-sectional time frame, which means it looked at a specific point in time, and a descriptive-propositive scope, which means it aimed to describe the current situation and propose a solution. By using this approach, the researchers were able to identify some key problems and design a system that can help fix them. The system is based on the idea of continuous improvement, with a focus on making small changes every day to improve performance. The use of a visual dashboard and 10 minute routines helps to make sure that everyone is on the same page and that problems are addressed quickly. Overall, this study shows how a well-designed system can help a logistics operation run more smoothly and efficiently.
